Tallassee's 1852 mill stands on the Tallapoosa River at the edge of downtown. The city's last textile mills closed in 2005, and the riverfront has waited for a new use since.

A development group that includes CureX has approached the city about the riverfront and downtown. The proposal centers on a boutique hotel of 90 to 100 rooms at the 1852 mill, with interest in revitalizing downtown buildings. The group has sent the city a memorandum of understanding that sets out the overall intent. No agreement is final.
